The beginning of Chilean postal activity goes back to the colony. Around the middle of the 18th century, throughout the Postal Network, a service was established that covered from La Ligua to the south, and that promoted the settlement of villages and towns as the construction of roads so that displaced “diligencias” that carried the freight of letters, packages, money orders and passengers.
In this period, the king of Spain, Phillip V, ordered the standardisation of the post offices in his empire, appointing in 1747, the merchant Ignacio de los Olivos, as Major Leuitenant of the Post Office of this overseas territory, who would pass in history as founder of the Chilean post office 259 years ago.
These and other milestones have emphasized the capacity of adaption and development of a company distinguished by a universal service that looks to reach every Chilean without distinction at any place where he or she is located; a service that has been and is now an actor of democratic, social and economic development of the country; and that since its origin plays an active role in the national sovereignty.
It is the history of the company that today leads a highly competitive market and that with modern management and innovation looks to deliver the best standards of quality and transparency to its clients, without neglecting its service to the country, nor its protection of its heritage. |
